{"id":1003,"date":"2014-08-26T10:57:02","date_gmt":"2014-08-26T09:57:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/?p=1003"},"modified":"2014-08-26T10:57:02","modified_gmt":"2014-08-26T09:57:02","slug":"gossip-malicious-talk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/delevensschool.org\/en\/gossip-malicious-talk\/","title":{"rendered":"Gossip and malicious talk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From the study about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/topics\/under-the-magnifying-glass\/?preview=true&amp;preview_id=33&amp;preview_nonce=9587dcdaeb\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Satan<\/span> <\/a>it is clear that speaking badly about others, devil, is characteristic of the character of Satan.<br \/>\nAnyone who gossips enters Satan\u2019s territory.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Why is gossip wrong?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Gossip has no understanding of others.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nGossip often comes from jealousy, or from a bad self-image. People who have different habits are often gossiped about.<br \/>\nGossip puts someone in a bad light and knows no compassion or mercy.<br \/>\nTalking badly about someone does not take account of the personality and the background against which he behaves.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>You shall not give false (untruthful, misleading) testimony against your neighbor.\u00a0 \u00a0(Exodus 20:16)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Gossip leads a life of its own and often serves lies.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nWhen someone hears something negative about someone else, it is usually repeated to others, and the story starts to lead a life of its own. It usually gets spicier and more dramatic as time goes on.<br \/>\nSomething that is told as an assumption, \u201cI think I am right in saying that \u2026\u201d, gradually becomes more certain, and is eventually repeated as a definite fact.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Gossip takes away someone\u2019s first impression.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nWhen someone meets a person, about whom he has heard gossip, for the first time, he will find it difficult to feel free and open towards that person.<br \/>\nThe first impression is influenced negatively in advance.<br \/>\nAs a result, suspicion is born and the other person will &#8211; unbeknown to himself &#8211; first have to prove himself in order to remove that suspicion.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Gossip influences the manner in which someone is thought about.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nSuppose that, for whatever reason, Mr. X gets drunk.<br \/>\nIt is possible that this never happened before and that it will never happen again, but someone has seen it.<br \/>\nIf that person spreads the message around that he has seen Mr. X drunk, there is a real possibility that many people will consider him to be a drunkard and that people will avoid him.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Gossip brings estrangement between people.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nIt is clear that estrangement will be brought about between Mr. X and his surroundings, in the case mentioned above.<br \/>\nGossip is often the cause of disputes within families and whole communities can fall apart because of malicious talk.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Whoever gossips becomes an adversary of God.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nJesus prayed to His Father:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>I pray \u2026 for those who will believe in me \u2026 <strong>that all of them may be one<\/strong>, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. <strong>May they also be in us<\/strong> so that the world may believe that you have sent me.\u00a0\u00a0 (John 17:20-21)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>On the other hand, Jesus said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u2026 whoever does not gather with me <strong>scatters<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 (Matthew 12:30 \/ Luke 11:23)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Whoever gossips brings about estrangement between people and plays along with Satan.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Gossip condemns.<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span>Man is not to judge. Jesus even said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, <strong>I do not judge that person<\/strong>. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.\u00a0\u00a0 (John 12:47)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Gossip testifies to lack of forgiveness.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nPharisees came to Jesus gossiping about a woman who had been caught in adultery.<br \/>\nThey had even brought her with them, and according to the law of Moses she should have been stoned, together with the man with whom she had committed adultery.<br \/>\nThe Pharisees had the law on their side.<br \/>\nJesus said however:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.\u00a0\u00a0 (John 8:7)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And when everyone trickled away without saying anything, He said to the woman:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8230; <strong>neither do I condemn you<\/strong> \u2026 Go now and leave your life of sin. (John 8:11)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Whoever gossips has understood nothing of the love of Jesus.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nPaul writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Who are you to judge <strong>someone else\u2019s servant<\/strong>? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.\u00a0\u00a0 (Romans 14:4)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It is wrong to pronounce judgement on others and totally wrong to trumpet such personal opinion around.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Whoever gossips scatters, damages people and damages the church\u2019s testimony in the world, as the image of Jesus Christ, as well.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>How God wants us to get along with each other.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>If someone has done something wrong, Paul warns:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person <strong>gently<\/strong>. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Galatians 6:1)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Anyone who understands, in the depth of his heart, what it means to be completely accepted and forgiven by Jesus, is ready to forgive totally his whole life long.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The commandment is:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, \u2018Love your neighbour as yourself.\u00a0\u00a0 (Luke 10:27)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A tremendous promise God gives us:<\/span><\/h3>\n<blockquote><p><em>Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I. <strong>\u201cIf you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk<\/strong>,<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>then<\/strong> your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame.
