{"id":1057,"date":"2014-11-09T20:44:21","date_gmt":"2014-11-09T19:44:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/?p=1057"},"modified":"2015-02-10T14:38:22","modified_gmt":"2015-02-10T13:38:22","slug":"broken-relationships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/delevensschool.org\/en\/broken-relationships\/","title":{"rendered":"Broken relationships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The previous study <a title=\"The First sin \u2013 disobedience\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/first-sin-disobedience\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u2018The first sin &#8211; disobedience\u2019<\/span><\/a>\u00a0 was concluded with the text:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8230; she (Eve) took some (of the fruit) and ate it. She also gave some to her husband (Adam), who was with her, and he ate it.<br \/>\n(Genesis 3:6)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Eve was tempted by Satan, the father of lies (John 8:44) and she and Adam ate of the fruit of the only tree God had forbidden. This had tremendous consequences for creation.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Adam and Eve as God had created them.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/13.-Heers-over-de-aarde-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-272\" alt=\"13. Heers over de aarde 2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/13.-Heers-over-de-aarde-2.jpg\" width=\"346\" height=\"259\" srcset=\"https:\/\/delevensschool.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/13.-Heers-over-de-aarde-2.jpg 576w, https:\/\/delevensschool.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/13.-Heers-over-de-aarde-2-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 346px) 100vw, 346px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>God had created Adam and Eve perfect and they lived in an open relationship with Him. They were fixed on Him in their soul and spirit.<\/p>\n<p>God had given them the commission:<br \/>\n<em>&#8211; Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and <strong>subdue it. Rule over<\/strong> the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.\u00a0\u00a0 (Genesis 1:28)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>God had transferred part of His authority over this world to Adam and Eve. They exercised this authority in total obedience to God.<br \/>\nSince He had made a separation between light and darkness, Satan was unable to exercise any influence whatsoever on Adam and Eve\u2019s thinking.<br \/>\n(See the studies: <a title=\"God created the earth\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/god-created-earth\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">God created the earth<\/span><\/a>, <a title=\"Adam and Eve in paradise\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/adam-eve-paradise\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Adam and Eve in paradise<\/span><\/a>, <a title=\"Rebellion in heaven\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/rebellion-heaven\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Rebellion in heaven<\/span><\/a>.)<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The consequence of the fall.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Satan succeeded in making Eve doubt, via the visible world.<br \/>\nHe deluded her:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u2026 when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will <strong>be like God<\/strong>, knowing good and evil.\u00a0\u00a0 (Genesis 3:5)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The apostle Peter writes about listening to false prophets:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity &#8211; for <strong>\u201cpeople are slaves to whatever has mastered them\u201d<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 (2 Peter 2:19)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Whereas Eve knew God at close quarters and knew that she was not allowed to eat of the forbidden fruit, she believed Satan\u2019s delusion and became disobedient to God\u2019s command.<br \/>\nAdam followed his wife in doing so.<br \/>\n<strong>This is how Satan brought them into slavery under his rule<\/strong>, because they had placed obedience to him above obedience to God.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Consequence for world events.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>a. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Relationship broken between God and mankind.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/16.-Tot-Golgotha.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-275\" alt=\"16. Tot Golgotha\" src=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/16.-Tot-Golgotha.jpg\" width=\"576\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/delevensschool.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/16.-Tot-Golgotha.jpg 576w, https:\/\/delevensschool.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/16.-Tot-Golgotha-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By their disobedience to God and by listening to Satan, Adam and Eve broke off their relationship with God.<\/p>\n<p>From that moment on they were under Satan\u2019s rule, under the rule of the kingdom of darkness, and they were separated from the kingdom of Light, separated from God.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Isaiah expressed this as follows:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. But your <strong>iniquities<\/strong> have separated you from your God; <strong>your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 (Isaiah 59:1-2)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is represented schematically by the thick black line, which represents the separation between God and man. Since the fall, man is born into an open relationship with the kingdom of Satan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why \u2018natural man until Golgotha\u2019 is under \u2018soul\u2019 in the diagram has to do with the fact that God has not turned His back on mankind, as will become clear in the sequel to this study \u2018Spirit, soul and body\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>b. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Relationship broken between mankind and God.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nAdam and Eve became frightened of God as a result of their disobedience.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and <strong>they hid<\/strong> from the LORD God among the trees of the garden.\u00a0 \u00a0(Genesis 3:8)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>He (Adam) answered, \u201cI heard you in the garden, and <strong>I was afraid<\/strong> because I was naked; so I hid.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Genesis 3:10)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Adam and Eve had lived in an open relationship with their Creator.<br \/>\nDuring that time their bodies must have shone out God\u2019s glory, like Moses, after he had met God on Mount Sinai.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that <strong>his face was radiant because he had spoken with the LORD<\/strong>. When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and <strong>they were afraid to come near him<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 (Exodus 34:29-30)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>After their disobedience, Adam and Eve saw each other\u2019s bodies as they were, naked, without any covering, because God\u2019s glory had departed from them.<br \/>\nJust as the Israelites did not dare to approach Moses, Adam and Eve no longer dared to meet God.<\/p>\n<p><strong>c. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Relationship between Adam and Eve broken.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nAdam and Eve had lived in complete harmony with each other.<br \/>\nAs a result of their disobedience:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adam and Eve were ashamed in each other\u2019s presence.<br \/>\nIn the Bible nakedness is the image of natural man.<\/li>\n<li>Adam and Eve started to blame and accuse each other.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When God asked:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?\u00a0\u00a0 (Genesis 3:11)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Adam denied all personal responsibility, accused Eve and, at the same time, claimed that God was the cause:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>The woman you<\/strong> put here with me &#8211; she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.\u00a0\u00a0 (Genesis 3:12)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Eve also denied all personal responsibility:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Then the LORD God said to the woman, \u201cWhat is this you have done?\u201d The woman said, \u201cThe serpent deceived me, and I ate.\u201d<br \/>\n(Genesis 3:13)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>d. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Relationship with the earth broken.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nThe earth over which Adam and Eve ruled under God\u2019s authority was now ruled over by Satan, God\u2019s opponent.<br \/>\nAs a result God said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>To the woman he said, \u201cI will <strong>make your pains in childbearing very severe<\/strong>;\u00a0 with painful labour you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband (and your passion, longing will be for your husband), and he will rule over you (he will control you, have authority over you).\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 (Genesis 3:16)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>To Adam he said, \u201c<strong>Because y<\/strong>ou listened to your wife and <strong>ate fruit from the tree<\/strong> about which I commanded you, \u2018You must not eat from it,\u2019 \u201cCursed <strong>is the ground (the fields, the land)<\/strong> becaus<strong>e of you<\/strong>; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food \u2026\u201d<br \/>\n(Genesis 3:17-19)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Observe:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The earth is cursed because of Adam\u2019s disobedience.<br \/>\nGod had given the commandment to Adam before He had created Eve. (Genesis 2:16) Adam, as \u2018head\u2019, of his wife, Eve, is responsible for the fact that the earth is cursed, not Eve, who was the first to eat.<\/li>\n<li>The earth is cursed because Satan now rules over the earth, with the result that the earth will never again produce its full output.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>e. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Death enters the earth\u2019s stage.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nGod had said to Adam:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, <strong>for when you eat from it you will certainly die<\/strong>.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 (Genesis 2:16-17)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>After Adam had contravened this commandment God said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food <strong>until you return to the ground<\/strong>, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.\u00a0\u00a0 (Genesis 3:17-19)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>God made Adam responsible and his disobedience affected Eve and their descendants.<br \/>\nIn God\u2019s eyes Adam and Eva died, spiritually speaking, at the moment they became disobedient.<br \/>\nGod sees <a title=\"Life and death (abridged)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/life-death-abridged-2\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">life and death<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in function of relationships. He was no longer able to have a direct relationship with Adam and Eve after they had pushed obedience to Him aside and followed Satan\u2019s counsel.<br \/>\n<strong>They were spiritually \u2018dead\u2019 as far as He was concerned<\/strong>, and this was to apply to the whole of the human race that was to descend from them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adam and Eve would eventually die physically as well.<\/strong><br \/>\nThis is explained in detail in the studies that follow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>f. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Brokenness and death affected the following generation.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nCain, a son of Adam and Eve, became jealous of his younger brother, Abel, with the result:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Now Cain said to his brother Abel, \u201cLet\u2019s go out to the field.\u201d While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and Bhim.\u00a0\u00a0 (Genesis 4:8)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>g. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Since then Satan has ruled over the earth.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nAdam and Eve had been commanded by God to rule over the earth and the animals.<br \/>\nBy listening to Satan they had placed themselves under his authority. Indeed, Satan exercised this authority, as was seen in the desert, when Jesus was tempted by Satan.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The devil led him up to a high place and <strong>showed him<\/strong> in an instant <strong>all the kingdoms of the world<\/strong>. And he said to him, \u201c<strong>I will give you all their authority<\/strong> and splendor; <strong>it has been given to me<\/strong>, and <strong>I can give it to anyone I want to<\/strong>.
