{"id":1280,"date":"2015-02-12T10:40:28","date_gmt":"2015-02-12T09:40:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/?p=1280"},"modified":"2015-02-12T14:58:23","modified_gmt":"2015-02-12T13:58:23","slug":"marc-1534-god-god","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/delevensschool.org\/en\/marc-1534-god-god\/","title":{"rendered":"Mark 15:34 &#8211; My God, My God"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The text:<\/span><\/h3>\n<blockquote><p><em>It was <strong>nine in the morning<\/strong> when they crucified him.\u00a0\u00a0 (Mark 15:25)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>At noon<\/strong>, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.\u00a0\u00a0 (Mark 15:33)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>And at <strong>three in the afternoon<\/strong> Jesus cried out in a loud voice, \u201cEloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?\u201d, which means <strong>\u201cMy God, my God, why have you forsaken me?\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0 (Mark 15:34)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0(Mark 15:37)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Jesus was crucified at the third hour of the day, the moment at which the daily morning sacrifice was made in the temple.<br \/>\nThree hours later God brought a deep darkness over the earth, which lasted for three hours.<br \/>\nThis was not an eclipse of the sun. A full eclipse of the sun lasts for a maximum of 7 min. 31 sec.<\/p>\n<p>This sudden total darkness must have surprised the people around the cross.<br \/>\nIn this total darkness, they probably did not even see the cross anymore, and they probably became silent. So things became calm around Jesus\u00a0&#8211; a loving protection from the Father for His Son, Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the three hours of darkness, at the ninth hour, the moment at which the evening sacrifice was being made in the temple:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u2026 Jesus called out with a loud voice, \u201c<strong>Father<\/strong>, into your hands I commit my spirit.\u201d When he had said this, he breathed his last.<br \/>\n(Luke 23:46)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Jesus always said \u201cMy Father\u201d when He spoke to God.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Just before He died<\/strong>, when He called out in Aramaic: <strong>My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?<\/strong>, He was not talking to His Father, <strong>but to the people<\/strong> standing round the cross, and quoting from Psalm 22 as He did so:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? \u2026\u00a0\u00a0 (Psalm 22:1)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Pharisees who were looking on at Golgotha\u00a0&#8211; and who studied the Bible books of the Old Testament daily and knew large sections of them by heart &#8211; must have been able to add all the rest of Psalm 22.<\/p>\n<p>By quoting from Psalm 22 just before He died, it is very likely that Jesus was making a last attempt to make it clear to the spiritual leaders of the people that He is the fulfilment of the Old Testament prophecies.<br \/>\nThey were unable to understand this, however, because they were darkened in their understanding.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nevertheless, 1,000 years earlier, in Psalm 22, king David described exactly what was happening at Golgotha:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>verse 6\u00a0&#8211; But <strong>I am a worm<\/strong> and not a man, scorned by everyone, despised by the people.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>verse 7\u00a0&#8211; All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>verse 8\u00a0&#8211; <strong>He trusts in the LORD<\/strong>,\u201d they say, \u201c<strong>let the LORD rescue him<\/strong>. Let him deliver him,\u00a0 since he delights in him.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>verse 14\u00a0&#8211; I am poured out like water, and <strong>all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax<\/strong>; it has melted within me.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>verse 15\u00a0&#8211; My mouth is dried up like a potsherd, and <strong>my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth<\/strong>; you lay me in the dust of death.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>verse 16\u00a0&#8211; Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; <strong>they pierce my hands and my feet<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>verse 17\u00a0&#8211; All my bones are on display; <strong>people stare and gloat over me<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>verse 18\u00a0&#8211; <strong>They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>At that time the spectators saw a few quotations from this Psalm happening before their very eyes.
