{"id":1405,"date":"2015-04-30T14:55:05","date_gmt":"2015-04-30T13:55:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/?p=1405"},"modified":"2015-04-30T14:55:05","modified_gmt":"2015-04-30T13:55:05","slug":"hebrews-111-assurance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/delevensschool.org\/en\/hebrews-111-assurance\/","title":{"rendered":"Hebrews 11:1 &#8211; The assurance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chapter 10 of the Epistle to the Hebrews closes with the following words:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>So do not throw away (give up, cast away) your confidence; it will be richly (greatly) rewarded (given its due recompense).<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>You need to persevere so that when you have <strong>done the will of<\/strong> God, you will <strong>receive what he has promised<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u2026 But <strong>my righteous one will live by faith<\/strong> (trust).\u00a0\u00a0 (Hebrews 10:35-38)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>What does this text say?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The writer assumes that the person concerned desires to live according to God\u2019s will with heart and soul.<\/li>\n<li>He is encouraged to persevere, expecting to receive what is promised.<\/li>\n<li>Those who follow Jesus may boldly expect to receive the \u2018reward\u2019 that is promised.<\/li>\n<li>For Jesus is completely trustworthy and He keeps His promises.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The text of Hebrews 11:1.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Now <strong>faith<\/strong> is <strong>confidence<\/strong> in what we <strong>hope for<\/strong> and <strong>assurance<\/strong> about what <strong>we do not see<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Assurance<\/strong> is the translation of the Greek noun:\u00a0 <strong>hupostasis<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe <a title=\"Online Bijbel\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/online-bijbel\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">OLB<\/span><\/a> states that this word is made up of two words:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>hupo<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; a preposition, to be translated as: through, under.<\/li>\n<li><strong>histemis<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; a verb, to be translated as: to cause to stand, to set down, to place, (cause to) set up, tie up, establish.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The OLB also translated the word <strong>hupostasis<\/strong> therefore as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>putting or placing underneath, the thing that is placed underneath somewhere, substructure, <strong>foundation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Interpretation of the text:<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The text of Hebrews 11:1 can thus be read as follows:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>Trusting<\/strong> in Jesus is the <strong>foundation<\/strong> of what one <strong>hopes<\/strong> and the evidence of what one does not (yet) see.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The <strong>hope<\/strong> of obtaining what Jesus has promised is <strong>founded<\/strong> on the <strong>trust<\/strong> that <strong>Jesus keeps His promises<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThis trust in Jesus is <strong>part of the evidence<\/strong> that one will receive what one does not (yet) see.<\/p>\n<p>For:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>For\u00a0no matter how many promises God has made, <strong>they are \u201cYes\u201d<\/strong> (sure, decidedly so) <strong>in Christ<\/strong>.
