{"id":1431,"date":"2015-05-05T13:10:23","date_gmt":"2015-05-05T12:10:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/?p=1431"},"modified":"2015-05-05T13:10:23","modified_gmt":"2015-05-05T12:10:23","slug":"genesis-42-farmer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/delevensschool.org\/en\/genesis-42-farmer\/","title":{"rendered":"Genesis 4:2 &#8211; The farmer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>The text:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u2026 Cain worked the soil (in Hebrew: <strong>\u2018abad\u2019 \u2018adamah\u2019<\/strong>).\u00a0\u00a0 (Genesis 4:2)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Hebrew uses <strong>two words<\/strong> for our concept of a <strong>farmer<\/strong>, i.e.:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>The first word:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>abad<\/strong>: a verb that can be translated as \u2018to work\u2019\u00a0&#8211; to serve.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In view of the verb form used, to be translated as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>to labour, to work, to carry out work<\/li>\n<li>to work for someone else, to serve someone else by working<\/li>\n<li>to serve as subordinates<\/li>\n<li>to serve (God)<\/li>\n<li>to serve (in Levitical service)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>A few texts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Laban said to him, \u201cJust because you are a relative of mine, should you <strong>work<\/strong> for me for nothing? Tell me what your wages should be.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 (Genesis 29:15)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>And God said (to Moses), \u201cI will be with you.
