{"id":1869,"date":"2015-07-23T19:23:45","date_gmt":"2015-07-23T18:23:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/?p=1869"},"modified":"2015-07-23T19:23:45","modified_gmt":"2015-07-23T18:23:45","slug":"1-john-518-anyone-born-god-continue-sin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/delevensschool.org\/en\/1-john-518-anyone-born-god-continue-sin\/","title":{"rendered":"1 John 5:18 &#8211; Anyone born of God does not continue to sin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The text:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>We know that anyone born of God <strong>does not continue to sin<\/strong>; the One (Jesus) who was born of God <strong>keeps them safe<\/strong>, and the evil one <strong>cannot harm<\/strong> them.\u00a0\u00a0 (1 John 5:18)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A little word of explanation:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>to continue to sin<\/strong>: is the translation of <strong>\u2018hamartano\u2019<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe <a title=\"Online Bijbel\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/online-bijbel\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">OLB<\/span><\/a> translates this as: without being a part, to miss the goal, to wander (away), to be wrong.<br \/>\nThe Greek Dictionary also translates this as: to do wrong, to make a mistake, to sin.<\/li>\n<li><strong>keeps \u2026 safe<\/strong>: is the translation of <strong>\u2018tereo\u2019<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThis is translated as: to take well care of, to look after, to guard.<\/li>\n<li><strong>harm<\/strong>: is the translation of <strong>\u2018haptomai\u2019<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThis is translated as: to attach oneself to something, to touch (somebody), to assault.<br \/>\n(It is almost always translated as to touch in the New Testament.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here John typifies <a title=\"Discipleship (1)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/discipleship-1\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>the disciple of Jesus<\/strong><\/span><\/a> as one who was born of God:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>who submits to the authority of Jesus<\/li>\n<li>who lives from the perfect love that the Holy Spirit <a title=\"Discipleship (2)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/discipleship-2\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">has poured out<\/span><\/a> into his heart<\/li>\n<li>who, in the spirit, is completely focussed on God<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>who does not continue to sin<\/strong> (hamartano):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>who will not miss the goal that God has for his life<\/li>\n<li>who will not wander (away) or go wrong<\/li>\n<li>who will do his part in the Kingdom of God<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>for Jesus keeps him safe<\/strong> (tereo):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>takes well care of him<\/li>\n<li>looks after him<\/li>\n<li>and protects him<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>so that the evil one cannot harm him<\/strong> (haptomai):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>cannot attach himself to him<\/li>\n<li>cannot touch or assault him.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This believer will be completely protected in the spirit and the realm of darkness will only still be able to have an influence on him via the visible world.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Print this study as a PDF document:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/1-John-5.18-Anyone-born-of-God-.pdf\">1 John 5:18\u00a0&#8211; Anyone born of God does not continue to sin.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The text: We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One (Jesus) who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them.\u00a0\u00a0 (1 John 5:18) A little word of explanation: to continue to sin: is the translation of \u2018hamartano\u2019.
