Now about the gifts of the Spirit<\/strong>, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.\u00a0\u00a0 (1 Corinthians 12:1)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n \u2018The gifts of the Spirit\u2019<\/strong> is the translation of the Greek \u2018pneumatikos\u2019<\/strong>. The same word is used in the text:<\/p>\n This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual (pneumatikos)<\/strong> realities with Spirit-taught (pneumatikos)<\/strong> words.\u00a0\u00a0 (1 Corinthians 2:13)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n God is the origin of everything. The church, the body of Jesus Christ, is society in miniature. Those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.\u00a0\u00a0 (Romans 8:5)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Paul describes how he sees this order and structure in the church in 1 Corinthians 12:4-6.<\/p>\n There are different kinds of gifts\/presents out of kindness<\/strong>, but the same Spirit<\/strong> distributes them.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n There are different kinds of service<\/strong>, but the same Lord<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n There are different kinds of working<\/strong>,<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God<\/strong> at work. (literally: working all this in everyone).<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Paul distinguishes 3 areas of spiritual life in the church:<\/p>\n It is remarkable how God, as the Divine Trinity, is involved with the building up of the life of the church, the body of Jesus Christ. In 1 Corinthians 12 Paul first describes the spiritual gifts\/presents out of kindness<\/strong> through the Holy Spirit<\/strong>. But to each one the revelation of the Spirit<\/strong> is given to gather together\/to carry together\/to be useful. This text is discussed in the study: 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 – Spiritual gifts through the Holy Spirit.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n These are discussed by Paul in the letter to the Ephesians, as a structure for the church worldwide<\/strong>. And He (Jesus)<\/strong> has indeed given<\/strong> This text is discussed in the study: Ephesians 4:11 – Structure of the universal church.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n These are elaborated upon by Paul in the first letter to the Corinthians as the structure for the local church<\/strong>. Moreover, God<\/strong> has indeed designated a place<\/strong> in the church to, This text is discussed in the studies: 1 Corinthians 12:28 – God has placed in the church<\/span><\/a> and 1 Corinthians 12:28 – Structure of the local church.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Paul sees 3 different areas in which the Holy Spirit is at work in the church, via the life of the disciples of Jesus Christ:<\/p>\n The teaching from Romans 12<\/span><\/a> must also be mentioned for the sake of completeness. In this way God provides what is necessary:<\/p>\n \u2026 to equip the saints for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up,<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God<\/strong> and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Instead, speaking the truth in love<\/strong>, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n From him the whole body<\/strong>, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 (Ephesians 4:12-16)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n All this is so that the testimony of Jesus Christ may (continue to) sound loud and clear in the world, in accordance with Jesus\u2019 prayer:<\/p>\n My prayer \u2026 for those, who will believe in me \u2026 that all of them may be one<\/strong>, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 (John 17:20-21)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
\nThe Greek\/Dutch dictionary<\/span><\/a> translates \u2018pneumatikos\u2019<\/strong> as:<\/p>\n\n
\nHe is a God of order and structures. That is the reason why He gave detailed laws in the Old Testament, not only covering intercourse with Himself, but also for society.
\nDuring his life Jesus explained the full meaning of this corpus of laws<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n
\nGod also gives a structure for this society, in the New Testament.
\nHe appoints disciples for the serving tasks in this structure. They live under the command and authority of Jesus Christ and allow themselves to be led by the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n\n
\nAnd each Person of the Divine Trinity is involved with a particular component part:<\/p>\n\n
Spiritual gifts through the Holy Spirit.<\/span><\/h3>\n
