{"id":2576,"date":"2018-06-14T11:14:09","date_gmt":"2018-06-14T10:14:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/?p=2576"},"modified":"2018-07-06T11:22:59","modified_gmt":"2018-07-06T10:22:59","slug":"believing-jesus-christ","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/delevensschool.org\/en\/believing-jesus-christ\/","title":{"rendered":"Believing in Jesus Christ"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The text:<\/span><\/h3>\n<blockquote><p><em>Whoever believes <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in (eis)<\/span><\/strong> the Son has eternal life, \u2026\u00a0\u00a0 (John 3:36)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In this study we examine what it means <strong>to believe <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in<\/span> Jesus<\/strong>, with <strong>\u2018in\u2019<\/strong> as the translation of the little Greek word <strong>\u2018eis\u2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The meaning of <strong>\u2018eis\u2019<\/strong> is explained in: \u2018<a title=\"Word study of the little Greek words epi, en, eis\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/word-study-little-greek-words-epi-en-eis\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Word study<\/span><\/a> of the little Greek words epi, en, eis\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The little Greek words<strong> \u2018en\u2019<\/strong> and <strong>\u2018eis\u2019<\/strong> are of importance for the present study<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong> \u2018en\u2019<\/strong>, which draws attention to the place or status where or in which an action takes place.<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u2018eis\u2019<\/strong>, which assumes there to be movement from outside into, or onto the place where the action takes place.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">An example:<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Someone is sitting at the window looking outside.<br \/>\nHe feels the warmth of the sun on his skin and enjoys the view of his garden and nature.<\/p>\n<p>If he wishes to experience nature to the full &#8211; the grandness of fresh air, the scent of flowers, feeling the wind on his skin, he will have to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong> Get up and leave his house,<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>go outside <strong>\u2018into\u2019 (eis) \u2018in\u2019 (eis)<\/strong> the garden, in other words: go <strong>\u2018into\u2019 (eis)<\/strong> the garden.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Only when the person goes outside,<strong> \u2018into\u2019 (eis)<\/strong> the garden, will he be able to experience God\u2019s creation to the full<strong> \u2018in\u2019 (en)<\/strong> the garden.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Some Bible texts:<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Believing in Jesus:<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nRemember: <strong>\u2018eis\u2019<\/strong> supposes there to be movement <strong>\u2018into\u2019<\/strong>, or <strong>\u2018onto\u2019<\/strong> the place where the action takes place.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Then Jesus declared, \u201cI am the bread of life. &#8230; whoever believes <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in (eis)<\/span><\/strong> me will never be thirsty.\u00a0\u00a0 (John 3:35)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>Whoever believes <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in (eis)<\/span><\/strong> the Son has eternal life, \u2026\u00a0\u00a0 (John 3:36)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>For my Father\u2019s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in (eis)<\/span><\/strong> him shall have eternal life, \u2026\u00a0\u00a0 (John 6:40)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>Still, many <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in (eis)<\/span><\/strong> the crowd believed in him.\u00a0\u00a0 (John 7:31)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>Jesus said to her, \u201cI am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in (eis)<\/span><\/strong> me will live, even though they die; \u2026\u00a0\u00a0 (John 11:25)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in (eis)<\/span><\/strong> him, \u2026\u00a0\u00a0 (John 11:48)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in (eis)<\/span><\/strong>?\u00a0\u00a0 (Romans 10:14)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The goal of believing in Jesus.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nThe purpose of Jesus\u2019 coming to the world is for a disciple to live in Jesus, just as Jesus lives in a relationship with His Father:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>On that day you will realize that I am <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in (en)<\/span><\/strong> my Father, and you are <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in (en)<\/span><\/strong> me, and I am <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in (en)<\/span><\/strong> you.\u00a0\u00a0 (John 14:20)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Remember: <strong>\u2018en\u2019<\/strong> draws attention to the place where the action takes place.<\/p>\n<p>Just as Jesus lives in a relationship with His Father, a disciple will live in a relationship with Jesus:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cI am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in (en)<\/span><\/strong> me and I <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in (en)<\/span><\/strong> you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.\u00a0\u00a0 (John 15:5)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains <strong>in (en) <\/strong>me, and I <strong>in (en) <\/strong>them.\u00a0\u00a0 (John 6:56)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Conclusion:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To be able to be <strong>\u2018in\u2019 (en)<\/strong> Jesus, one must first come <strong>\u2018in\u2019 (eis &#8211; into)<\/strong> Jesus.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Back to the example:<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>As explained in the study \u2018<a title=\"John 3:3-5 \u2013 Conversion and discipleship\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/john-33-5-conversion-discipleship\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">John 3:3-5<\/span><\/a> &#8211; Conversion and discipleship\u2019, living in Jesus requires two steps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conversion<\/li>\n<li>Discipleship<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">1. Conversion:<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nThrough <a title=\"Conversion\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/conversion\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">conversion<\/span><\/a> one is born into new spiritual life.<br \/>\nAs a result of this the believer comes to <strong>see<\/strong> something of the Kingdom of Heaven.<br \/>\nThis is like the person sitting at the window and looking out and experiencing something of nature in the example above.<\/p>\n<p>Whoever, through conversion, looks at Jesus <strong>from the viewpoint of his worldly surroundings<\/strong>, trusts (believes) that He is the Son of God, trusts (believes) that He died for the forgiveness of sins, \u2026<strong> sees and undergoes something of the Kingdom of God<\/strong>, without fully becoming part thereof himself.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Ander-bekeerd1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-1783\" alt=\"Ander bekeerd\" src=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Ander-bekeerd1.jpg\" width=\"97\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThis is what is illustrated in the study <a title=\"A different schematic presentation\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/different-schematic-presentation\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u2018A different schematic presentation\u2019<\/span><\/a> by the drawing: People who know Jesus in their life.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, Jesus desires everyone, who has received forgiveness of sins, to live in (en) Him and thus to experience the blessings of the Kingdom of Heaven to the full.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">2. Discipleship:<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nFrom the spiritual point of view <a title=\"Discipleship (1)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/discipleship-1\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">discipleship<\/span><\/a> is living by the Spirit, whereby the believer does not trust in himself, but totally in Jesus, when making decisions in life.<br \/>\nExpressed otherwise: <strong>Puts his trust in(to) (eis) Jesus.<\/strong><br \/>\nThat is like in the example above, leaving the house and going outside, <strong>into (eis)<\/strong> nature, in order to experience it to the full.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Ander-discipel1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-1784\" alt=\"Ander discipel\" src=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Ander-discipel1.jpg\" width=\"98\" height=\"101\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThis is explained in the study \u2018A different schematic presentation\u2019 by the drawing: People who give Jesus authority over their life.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When asked:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWhat must we do to do <strong>the works God<\/strong> requires?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 (John 6:28)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Jesus answers:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThe work of God is this: <strong>to believe in (eis: into) the one he has sent<\/strong>.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 (John 6:29)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Doing the works of God is determined by trusting <strong>in(to) Jesus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Whoever trusts (believes) in(to) (eis) Jesus will live in (en) Jesus.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Jesus taught:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls <strong>to (eis: into)<\/strong> the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.<br \/>\nAnyone who loves their <strong>life (psuche = soul)<\/strong> will lose it, while anyone who hates their<strong> life (psuche = soul)<\/strong> in this world will keep it for eternal life.<br \/>\nWhoever serves me must follow me; and <strong>where I am<\/strong>, my servant also will be. My Father will honour the one who serves me.<br \/>\n(John 12:24-26 &#8211; also Matthew 16:24-26 and 10:39 \/ Mark 8:35 \/ Luke 9:24 and 17:33)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The kernel of grain must be planted <strong>in\/into (eis)<\/strong> the earth and remain <strong>in (en)<\/strong> in the earth in order to be transformed into its destiny, growing into a fully-fledged, fruit bearing plant.<\/p>\n<p>Only in this way will the believer live as a <a title=\"Discipleship (2)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/discipleship-2\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">disciple of Jesus<\/span><\/a>, if he\/she <strong>transfers faith\/trust in (en) him\/herself (in)to (eis) Jesus<\/strong> when making life\u2019s decisions, in order, subsequently, <strong>to remain in (en) Jesus<\/strong>.
