{"id":484,"date":"2014-05-13T13:01:10","date_gmt":"2014-05-13T12:01:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/?p=484"},"modified":"2014-06-01T20:21:45","modified_gmt":"2014-06-01T19:21:45","slug":"god-created-earth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/delevensschool.org\/en\/god-created-earth\/","title":{"rendered":"God created the earth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"God created heaven\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/god-created-heaven\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The creation of heaven<\/span> <\/a>was discussed in the previous chapter.<br \/>\nThis chapter concerns the creation of the earth.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.\u00a0\u00a0 (Genesis 1:1)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>The heavens:<\/strong> The spiritual, invisible world, not discernible with our senses.<br \/>\n<strong>The earth:<\/strong> The planet upon which we live, the visible world.<\/p>\n<p>The apostle Paul writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u2026 what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.\u00a0\u00a0 (2 Corinthians 4:18)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The visible world is susceptible to time. Everything that happens in the visible world is temporary.<br \/>\nThe invisible, spiritual world is not bound by time. Everything that happens in the invisible world remains forever, remains eternally.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Presented schematically:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/1.-Hemel-en-aarde.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-257\" alt=\"1. Hemel en aarde\" src=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/1.-Hemel-en-aarde.jpg\" width=\"576\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/delevensschool.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/1.-Hemel-en-aarde.jpg 576w, https:\/\/delevensschool.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/1.-Hemel-en-aarde-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The horizontal line indicates the separation between the two worlds:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>invisible<\/strong>, spiritual world, heaven, where God lives, God (3) as Father, Son and Spirit and the heavenly realms.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>visible<\/strong>, physical world, where the people live.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.\u00a0\u00a0 (Genesis 1:2)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When God created the earth, the earth was initially shrouded in darkness and covered by water.<br \/>\n\u2018Formless and empty\u2019 says the Bible. In Hebrew: \u2018tohuw bohuw\u2019.<br \/>\nAlso to be translated as: without form \/ chaos\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 lying fallow.<br \/>\nAnd God\u2019s Spirit was hovering over the waters.<\/p>\n<p>God was present in this chaos by His Spirit, the Holy Spirit.<br \/>\nThe Holy Spirit is the link between God and the world, between the invisible and the visible world, between the spiritual and the physical world.<br \/>\nThe Holy Spirit functions as God\u2019s eyes, as 2 Chronicles 16:9 states:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>For <strong>the eyes of the LORD<\/strong> range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>God knows what is happening in this world. He knows what is happening in each person\u2019s life.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">On the first day God also created the light.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>When God made the world ready, as a dwelling place for man, the first thing He said was:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cLet there be light,\u201d and there was light.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Genesis 1:3)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It appears strange that God created light, for John writes in his letter that God <strong>IS<\/strong> light.\u00a0\u00a0 (1 John 1:5)<br \/>\nGod <strong>is<\/strong> light, but He is Spirit, and He lives in the invisible world. The spiritual is not directly visible in our physical world.<\/p>\n<p>When God said: \u201cLet there be light\u201d, He created the natural phenomenon of \u2018light\u2019. This is how God became visible in this world.<br \/>\nGod Himself illuminated the world in the first days of creation. He was visibly present in this world as The Light, until He created the sun on the fourth day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The symbolism<\/strong> that God has placed in <a title=\"God is light\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/god-light\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the phenomenon of \u2018light\u2019<\/span><\/a> is explained in a separate document.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>God saw that the light was good, and <strong>he separated<\/strong> the light from the darkness. God called the light \u201cday,\u201d and the darkness he called \u201cnight.\u201d And there was evening, and there was morning\u2014the first day.\u00a0\u00a0 (Genesis 1:4-5)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The earth was initially shrouded in darkness.<br \/>\nGod drove the darkness out by His Presence. He determined that there would be a separation between light and darkness. Light and darkness cannot be mixed.<br \/>\n<strong>Light drives<\/strong> the darkness out. Light rules over the darkness.<\/p>\n<p>God Himself gave names to light and darkness. He called light day and He called darkness night.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>The\u00a0second day:<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 (Genesis 1:6-8)<br \/>\nOn the second day God created the vault, and He separated the waters below and above the vault.\u00a0 God called the vault: sky.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>The third day:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 (Genesis 1:9-13)<br \/>\nOn the third day God caused the waters to be gathered to one place, so that dry land appeared.<br \/>\nHe called the dry land earth; He called the waters gathered to one place seas.<br \/>\nGod also said that plants and trees were to appear \u2026 and that happened as He said.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>The fourth day:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 (Genesis 1:14-19)<br \/>\nOn this day God created the sun and the moon, to illuminate the earth, to make a separation between day and night, and as a standard for time and the seasons.<\/p>\n<p>Since then the earth, the visible world, has been illuminated by the sun.<br \/>\nHe placed <strong>the sun<\/strong>, the biggest light, that emits light itself, in charge of the day, representing the presence of God in this world as it were.<\/p>\n<p>The light of the sun cannot be extinguished.<br \/>\nThe light of the sun can indeed shine less brightly, if it is obstructed by a cloud for example.<br \/>\nIt even slowly disappears completely in the evening, when the sun sets. At that moment it gets dark and night falls.<\/p>\n<p>He placed <strong>the moon<\/strong>, the smaller light, in charge of the night.<br \/>\nThe moon does not emit any light by itself; it reflects the light of the sun and thus softens the darkness on the earth.<br \/>\nThe darkness is driven away automatically when the sun rises again in the morning, at the beginning of the new day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>God has placed deep spiritual meaning in the sun and the moon.<br \/>\n<\/strong>Light is not only a physical phenomenon; it is of spiritual significance too.<br \/>\nIn de Bible, light is the symbol of The Truth, in accordance with the will of God.<\/p>\n<p>The apostle John writes concerning the coming of Jesus to our world:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The <strong>true light<\/strong> that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.\u00a0\u00a0 (John 1:9)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And Jesus said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>I am the light of the world<\/strong>. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.\u00a0\u00a0 (John 8:12)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>While I am in the world<\/strong>, I am the light of the world.\u00a0\u00a0 (John 9:5)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Jesus is the sun for our world, so that man should live in His Light, as He is in the light.\u00a0 (according to 1 John 1:7)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (John 3:20)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. (1 John 2:9)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Acting, living in accordance with the will of God, is walking in the light.<br \/>\nWhoever does not act, live in accordance with the will of God, walks in darkness from a spiritual point of view.<\/p>\n<p>Later on Jesus says to His disciples, His followers:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>You are the light of the world.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 (Matthew 5:14)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A disciple, every follower of Jesus, has the light of Jesus within him, and has the commission to shine that light out into the world, through how he behaves and acts, just like the moon reflects the light of the sun.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The fifth day:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong> (Genesis 1:20-23)<br \/>\nOn this day God created everything that lives in the waters and the seas, according to their various kinds.<br \/>\nHe gave the fish orders to fill the waters and the seas, and the birds to become numerous on the earth.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>The sixth day:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 (Genesis 1:24-31)<br \/>\nOn this day God gave orders that the earth was to bring forth living creatures.<br \/>\nThis is how God created all the wild animals, cattle and animals that move along the ground, according to their various kinds.<\/p>\n<p>God also said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Let us make <strong>mankind in our image, in our likeness<\/strong>, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.\u00a0\u00a0 (Genesis 1:26)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>So <strong>God created mankind in his own image<\/strong>, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.\u00a0\u00a0 (Genesis 1:27)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>God gave orders to man to become numerous, to subject the earth, and to rule over the fish, the birds and the animals.<\/p>\n<p>The creation of mankind is explained in detail in the following chapter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>At the end of the sixth day<\/strong><br \/>\nGod saw all that he had made, and <strong>it was very good<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 (Genesis 1:31)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>The seventh day:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 (Genesis 2:1-3)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so <strong>on the seventh day he rested<\/strong> from all his work. Then <strong>God <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">blessed<\/span> the seventh day<\/strong> and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>God appointed the seventh day to be a day of rest in creation.<\/p>\n<p>Later, when He gives the \u2018Ten Commandments\u2019 to His people, He charges them to rest on the seventh day, after having worked for six days.\u00a0\u00a0 (Exodus 20:9 \/ Deuteronomy 5:13)<br \/>\nIt is not necessary to work seven days out of seven to provide for life\u2019s needs.<\/p>\n<p>God regards the day of rest as being holy, set apart.<br \/>\nHe will make sure that anyone who \u2018only\u2019 works six days, and rests on the seventh day, will be compensated.<\/p>\n<p>Even when the people of God, the Israelites, travelled through the desert and were provided with their \u2018daily bread\u2019, the \u2018manna\u2019, by Him, He had <a title=\"Exodus 16:2-31 \u2013 About manna\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/exodus-162-31-manna\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">a solution for the seventh day<\/span><\/a>.<br \/>\nThis will be explained further in the study: The seventh day \u2013 a day of rest.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This is continued in the study: <a title=\"God created mankind \u2013 Adam\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/god-created-mankind-adam\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">God created mankind<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Print this study in PDF document:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/God-created-the-earth.pdf\">God created the earth.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The creation of heaven was discussed in the previous chapter.
