God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 (1 John 1:5)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In the chapter \u2018Who is God\u2019<\/span> <\/a>we saw that when Moses asks God: What is your name, God answers him:<\/p>\n

I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: \u2018I AM has sent me to you.\u2019\u00a0\u00a0 (Exodus 3:14)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So who is God?<\/span><\/h3>\n

When God creates light as a natural phenomenon on the first day of creation, He lays down within this the deep significance of who He Himself is.
\nWhat has to be discovered is a reflection of His character.\"2.<\/a><\/p>\n

Physics teaches us that white sunlight is made up of seven main colours, with a multitude of transitional colours in between.
\nThese different colours become visible when a ray of light is shone through a prism.
\nThe ray of light is broken twice by the prism, so that the different colours, which make up white light, become clearly visible.<\/p>\n

White light is a composition of different colours. These different colours have to be brought together in the correct proportions in order to produce white light. If one colour is present in an insufficient proportion, it is left aside, or, on the contrary, it is accented too strongly, and then coloured light is produced.<\/p>\n

In the same way, God\u2019s character and who He really is will only be able to be understood if you see all the colours of His character in their correct proportions.
\nFor:<\/p>\n

God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.\u00a0\u00a0 (1 John 1:5)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If one, or several of God\u2019s characteristics are given too much attention, or if one, or several characteristics are given to little attention, a coloured image of who God is emerges.<\/p>\n

The Bible teaches a lot about God\u2019s multi-coloured character, including:<\/p>\n

God is<\/span> light.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is the message we have heard from him (Jesus) and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.\u00a0\u00a0 (1 Johannes 1:5)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

God is<\/span> holy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.\u00a0\u00a0 (Isaiah 6:3)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

God is<\/span> majestic in holiness.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Who among the gods is like you, LORD? Who is like you – majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Exodus 15:11)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

God is<\/span> love.<\/strong><\/p>\n

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.\u00a0\u00a0 (1 John 4:16)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

God is<\/span> peace.<\/strong><\/p>\n

So Gideon built an altar to the LORD there and called it The LORD Is Peace.\u00a0\u00a0 (Judges 6:24)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

God is<\/span> faithful.<\/strong><\/p>\n

God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.\u00a0\u00a0 (1 Corinthians 1:9)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

God is<\/span> righteous and faithful.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The LORD is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all he does.\u00a0\u00a0 (Psalm 145:17)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

God is<\/span> a consuming fire.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.\u00a0\u00a0 (Deuteronomy 4:24)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If God were only holiness, or if only His holiness is emphasised, no one would dare to approach Him.
\nHe is completely forbidding if He is only seen as a consuming fire.<\/p>\n

Vice versa, if God were only love, the complete picture of who He is becomes unbalanced too.
\nTo get to know God as He really is, ALL His characteristics have to be brought together, and seen in the correct perspective.
\nThis is the only way of getting to know His complete Personality.<\/p>\n

God is Light, that is His character.<\/strong><\/p>\n
