{"id":990,"date":"2014-08-26T10:20:52","date_gmt":"2014-08-26T09:20:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/?p=990"},"modified":"2014-08-26T10:26:31","modified_gmt":"2014-08-26T09:26:31","slug":"reactions-authoritative-teaching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/delevensschool.org\/en\/reactions-authoritative-teaching\/","title":{"rendered":"Reactions to authoritative teaching"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Explanation with reference to the study \u2018<a title=\"Spirit, soul and body \u2013 and the power of trinity\" href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/spirit-soul-body-power-trinity\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Spirit, soul and body \u2013 and the power of trinity<\/span><\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Teaching<\/strong>, given from a heart, a <strong>soul<\/strong>, fixed on Jesus, will be confirmed <strong>by the Holy Spirit<\/strong> in the spirit of the listener and, as a result, will be experienced as having <strong>authority<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>People generally react to this teaching in three different ways:<\/p>\n<p>1. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>With anger:<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nIf someone\u2019s own conviction <strong>feels under attack<\/strong>, with <strong>resistance<\/strong> to the Holy Spirit\u2019s witness as a result.<br \/>\nFor example, as happened when Stephen said to his interrogators:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>You stiff-necked people! Your hearts (as the seat of the soul) and ears are still uncircumcised. &#8230;\u00a0 <strong>You always resist the Holy Spirit!<br \/>\n<\/strong>(Acts 7:51)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><em>When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, <strong>they were furious<\/strong> (in their heart, as the seat of the soul) and gnashed their teeth at him. \u2026 At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. (Acts 7:54 and 57-58)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>2. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>With mockery and indifference:<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nIf the <strong>soul shuts itself<\/strong> off from the Holy Spirit\u2019s witness and <strong>casts it aside<\/strong>, like some people reacted to Paul\u2019s preaching:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some of them <strong>sneered<\/strong>, but others said, \u201cWe want to hear you again on this subject.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 (Acts 17:32)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>3. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>With faith and conversion:<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nIf the soul <strong>opens itself up in the spirit<\/strong> to the Truth, like the apostle Paul, who, having been educated in the wisdom and the teaching of the Pharisees, laid waste the early church and had disciples of Jesus killed.\u00a0\u00a0 (Acts 8:3 \/ 9:1)<br \/>\nHe <strong>met Jesus<\/strong> in a vision on the way to Damascus. He was blinded by the bright light that shone around him at that moment. This blindness lasted for three days.<\/p>\n<p>During those three days Paul realised that he had studied the Bible within the framework of\u00a0 thought as a Pharisee, which resulted in legalism because his heart\/soul was not open to the working of God\u2019s Spirit. As a result of this he persecuted people who believed in Jesus.<br \/>\nThis is why he wrote later:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u2026 the <strong>letter<\/strong> (the written word \u2013 meaning here: legalism) kills \u2026\u00a0\u00a0 (2 Corinthians 3:6)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In meeting Jesus Paul was confronted with the fact that Jesus was the promised Messiah and he discovered the truth of what Jesus had previously told the Pharisees:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>You study <strong>the Scriptures<\/strong> (the books of the O.T.) diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. <strong>These are the very Scriptures<\/strong> that testify <strong>about me<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 (John 5:39)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When Paul opened his heart\/soul to the working of the Holy Spirit, so that He could confirm the truth in his heart, Paul became, as he wrote later, a:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u2026 minister of a new covenant\u2014not of the letter but of the Spirit; for \u2026 <strong>the Spirit gives life<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 (2 Corinthians 3:6)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The result was that he, with all his knowledge as a Pharisee, &#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8230; began to preach in the synagogues <strong>that Jesus is the Son of God<\/strong>.\u00a0 (Acts 9:20)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Print this study as a PDF document:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.manual4life.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Reactions-to-authoritative-teaching.pdf\">Reactions to authoritative teaching.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Explanation with reference to the study \u2018Spirit, soul and body \u2013 and the power of trinity\u2019.
